Button-up dress pattern

This pattern was made in collaboration with Peppermint Magazine for Issue 39 of the magazine.

Garment details

The Button-up Dress is a sleeveless dress with princess panels that give a subtle 'fit and flare' silhouette. The dress is designed to be worn on it's own in the warmer months or layered over a long sleeve top and tights in the cooler months. The dress features a button up front and an all-in-one facing to finish the neckline and armholes.

Difficulty

This pattern is suitable for advanced beginners and beyond.

By working through this pattern, you will gain confidence in:

  • Sewing princess panels

  • Sewing an all-in-one facing

  • Sewing buttonholes

Suggested Fabrics

The Button-up Dress is compatible with medium to heavy weight fabrics. Consider using: cotton twill, cotton drill, linen, corduroy or denim.

Lighter fabrics could be used, but keep in mind that the buttons could weigh it down.

Notions

  • Coordinating thread

  • 10 x 22mm (7/8in) buttons

  • 0.8m (0.9yds) Light to mid-weight iron on fusing (if your fabric requires it)

Sizing

The pattern is available in 10 sizes (approximately AU size 6 - 24) and comes as a layered PDF so you can just print the size that you need. More details about In the Folds sizing can be found here.

Digital product details

The pattern is suitable for printing on both A4 and US letter sized paper. A copy shop version is also included in the file.

Print at home pattern: 35 pages

Print shop version: 2 x A0 pages

The pattern includes embedded layers. This means that you can select only the size/s you would like to print.
