Fashion Revolution Week starts today, and it can sometimes feel like a lot.
The week began in response to the Rana Plaza factory collapse in 2013, bringing global attention to the people behind the clothes we wear. Since then, it has grown into a movement that asks us to think more deeply about how clothing is made and valued.
If you sew, you are already seeing things differently.
You understand the time, decisions, and care that go into a garment. That experience naturally shifts how you value clothing, and that matters. This week is about reconnecting to that understanding and sharing it.
how can sewists get involved?
If you’re wondering where to start, here are three simple ways to take part:
Tell the story of something you’ve made. Share what went into it, from fabric to process, and why it matters to you.
Start a conversation about making. Talk about why you sew, or ask others if they’ve ever thought about how their clothes are made.
Repair something and bring it back into rotation. A small mend can extend its life and deepen your connection to it. Making is only one part of the process. Caring for what we make is just as important. Every garment you’ve sewn represents your time, energy, and resources. Repairing and maintaining those pieces is a way of honouring that investment and keeping them in use.
If you’ve been wanting to build confidence with repairs, our Mend & Repair Bundle is now available, which includes our Introduction to Garment Repair Kit and Denim Care and Repair Kit as a simple starting point.
If you feel like taking part, you’re already doing it. And if you feel like going a little further, consider sharing your process, your repairs, or your reflections with others.
Because change doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when we connect, share, and learn from each other.
