Tell us a bit about yourself: I'm a special education teacher, affordable housing advocate, neighborhood leader, bass player, singer, weaver, re-entering sewist, and pet mom of 6!!!
What In the Folds size do you wear? : Size B, Size C, Size D
Which pattern did you use?: Barkly skirt
What type of fabric did you make the garment/s from?: I made the Barkly Skirt in a fabric of unknown fiber content. It was reclaimed from a creative supply reuse shop. I think it's some type of lightweight cotton canvas??? Thicker than a typical dressmaking cotton.
What alterations (if any) did you make to the pattern/s?: I graded from a size C at the waist to size D at the hip. I got creative with the pattern layout so I could get the variety of stripes I wanted for the finished garment. In order to get the striped effect I wanted, I combined the 2 front hem facing pieces into one, and 2 back hem facing pieces into one.
If you made this pattern/s again, would you do anything differently?: I learned a lot about stripes matching. If I created this in stripes again, I would have to do more math to figure out how the seams will affect their placement due to the A line shape.
What would be your top tip for other makers using this pattern/s?: Follow the pattern guidance to sit and measure your hips when sitting to make sure there is enough true ease in the size you select for ease of movement.
I'd love to hear about a happy memory from when you made or wore this garment or garments!: This skirt fits so wonderfully! I was so thrilled when I first tried it on with the waistband and it was perfect! I can't wait to wear it out and about when Austin can come out of stay at home orders.
What do you love most about In the Folds patterns?: Clear instructions and innovative beautiful designs!
