Tell us a bit about yourself: I am an illustrator and I am super interested in making clothes by myself, for me and for my family. Clothes that fit well and look good! I don't like to go shopping, I like to keep my clothes for a loooooong time and I am quite poor, so really the actual fashion market is very frustrating for me, even if I like clothes! It has been a few years since I began to sew things here and there (making the pattern myself) but the result was never clean and as strong as I would expect for clothes (I have never learnt to sew properly). This is why I enter a new period of my life now, I purchase patterns with good instructions!! And the result is waaaay better and I can learn what I need and get good results!
What In the Folds size do you wear? : Size E, Size F, Size G
Which pattern did you use?: Darlow pants
What type of fabric did you make the garment/s from?: I used 3 different fabrics in different colors (charcoal grey, middle grey and khaki grey) in middle thickness (pants for french winter)
What alterations (if any) did you make to the pattern/s?: I made the pants for my husband, and I had to made a few alterations (for fit and for fun)
- the size is a mix between sizes E, F and G (his waist is slightly bigger than his hips)
- legs are shortened (he is a very short man)
- he wanted a second pair of pockets on the side for fun and a built-in belt at the waist so the pants don't slide down (tiny butt + wide waist problem.) He also wanted the bottom of the pants with 2 wide bands of a different colour, for style :D
If you made this pattern/s again, would you do anything differently?: I have made a mock up first, it was very useful! So the real pants were perfect !
What would be your top tip for other makers using this pattern/s?: it's worth taking the time to make it as good as possible, even if it takes a long time!
I'd love to hear about a happy memory from when you made or wore this garment or garments!: I love how my husband and I adjusted the look of the pattern to make his perfect dream pants that fit perfectly! Good moments creating something together!
What do you love most about In the Folds patterns?: I really liked all the instructions. Very clear! I liked the emphasis on "why taking the time to make it properly is important", so we can keep the clothes for years and years!! It helped me stay motivated until the very end!
